Ring Ring

Around 10:00 Friday night, the telephone rang. My heart stopped for a moment because no one I know would call that unless unless Something Bad Happened. Caller ID told me it was an unfamiliar local number, which was better because we have no family in town so that meant our families were safe. I answered the phone only to hear a male voice say "Sorry, wrong number" and hang up. Fine.

Not more than two minutes later RING RING.

Same guy only this time he just hangs up when I answer.

I am irritated.

Five minutes later RING RING.

Is this guy for real?

I answer by saying "Seriously..." and he hangs up.

10 minutes later RING RING this time with a different local number.

I answer and am now pissed off. I tell the same guy that obviously he has the wrong number and to stop calling.

We go about getting all of us ready for bed and settled in for the night with no more calls. R and I joke that there is only thing that could so singularly drive a man, but wasn't it a little early for a booty call? We joke, but part of me is getting a little freaked that this guy is some stalker who found out our house is for sale, figured out our phone number and is taunting me because he thinks I am alone and he wants to come kill me. I convince myself (but I don't tell R) that if he calls again, I'm calling the police because it has become ridiculous.

About 10:40 RING RING with a third local number.

This time R answers the phone and it's a woman. She sputters without saying much while he tells her we have all of their numbers recorded and to stop calling us. She didn't say anything in response so R just hung up. We stayed up until after 11 waiting for another call, but it never came.

It was a little crazy and I just don't get it. We checked the numbers left on Caller ID and the first number was the main number for an assisted living place. The man I spoke to did not sound like an old person so my guess is that he worked there and the other calls were made from different rooms in the facility. Kind of creepy, huh?

Weird. It would have been nice if they'd apologized and told you who exactly they were looking for. :/
